    HISTORY
The St. Petersburg Pharmaceutical Factory was founded in 1937. The exact date of the creation of the organization is impossible to establish. But through archival material sourced from 1937 onwards we have managed to recreate the organization’s history.

In 1937 the ‘Second Mendeleev Medicines Factory’ is set up.

In 1942 on the basis of order) No. 74 made on 1 April 1942 by the LGO CPA (Leningradskaya Oblast Central Pharmaceutical Administration) the factory is transformed into the Central Packaging Factory.

On 6 February 1945 according to a decree by the CPC (Council of People’s Commissars) of the RSFSR on 30 December 1935 and order No. 219 made on 5 March 1935 by the PHC (People’s Health Commissariat), the Galenevo-Pharmaceutical Works is established on the base of the Central Packaging Factory.

In 1949 the Galenevo-Pharmaceutical Works is transformed into a type of Chemical Plant warehouse, leading to the advent of a department of labor settlements with the Administration of the PCIA LO (People’s Commissariat of Internal Affairs, Leningrad Oblast).

In July 1958, in accordance with order No. 586 made on 23 June 1958 by the RSFSR Ministry of Health, the enterprise is renamed the ‘Galenevo-Pharmaceutical Factory’ of the Leningrad Municipal Department from the Central Chemistry Administration of the RSFSR Ministry of Health. In 1963, in accordance with decree No. 123 made on 11 February 1963 by the Leningrad Municipal Executive Committee (Lengorispolkom) the Galenevo-Pharmaceutical Factory is reassigned to the jurisdiction of the Municipal Pharmaceutical Administration of the Lengorispolkom.

In January 1970 the enterprise is renamed the PE (Public Enterprise) Pharmaceutical Factory. In 1994 the enterprise is privatized and becomes an open joint-stock company. For more than 65 years the factory has been involved in the preparation of various pharmaceutical products: extracts, solutions, mixtures, ointments and pastes made from natural substances. Almost all of these medicines may be purchased from chemists without a doctor’s prescription – they are essential for every home. These medicines are the most accessible for the public; their average price remains at a consistently affordable level.

    Activities
The factory centres its activities on the development, production and sale of medicines. The factory operates under license No. 64/1067/2000 granted on 14.04.2000 by the RFMH (Russian Federation Ministry of Health).

The enterprise is located in the city centre and is easily accessible by transport. Apart from the production and administrative areas, the enterprise also has warehouses, underground cellars and its own boiler-room, mechanical repair workshop and car park.

The largest line in the organization’s range of products contains our Galenus treatments – infusions made from herbs such as hawthorn, valerian, ginseng, schizandra, milky ripe oats, peony, motherwort and others. These treatments are tremendously popular amongst the Russian population. The prospects for developing Galenus treatments are endless; in fact the plant world is a generous supplier of raw material for medicines. The factory has a wonderfully well-equipped chemico-analytical laboratory, which carries out constant quality control at all stages of the technological process. A scientific-technological department has been created to undertake the development and application of new medicines.

Our organization actively cooperates with the SRI (Scientific Research Institute) of Toxicology, the SRI on Influenza, the St. Petersburg Chemico-Pharmaceutical Academy, the Petersburg Military-Medicinal Academy and the RAS (Russian Academy of Sciences) St. Petersburg Institute of Human Cerebral Study in developing new medicines. This productive cooperation has resulted in the addition of new medicines to the factory’s range of products.

In 2000 we developed and started producing a new treatment: ‘Galenopharm Echinacea Tincture’. A large research trial was conducted on the anti-fungal properties of a new complex plant-based product ‘Sodecor’. A fast-dissolving product for symptomatic treatment of colds and flu, ‘Flucoldin’ was also developed. In addition, we have created a dry laxative mixture, a new highly effective anti-fungal ointment 'Ecomicol’ and developed and launched a range of natural cosmetic products. Learn about our products in the ‘Production’ section.
