I think this can only happen when FRE can make some money first instead of losing $8M PA. Freshtel converge mobile technolgy is nothing like the others, with Freshtel you can keep your exsiting mobile number and your number is sent it doesn't say private number like the other players.
It ONLY differs from MNF, ENG, Fring, Nimbuzz, Gizmo & all the other freeware apps in that FRE App uses your existing mbl # for caller ID. This is hardly friends and family friendly as when your freinds & family get a missed call from you they end up paying mbl rates to call you back!
Frankly, if you really must have a mobile app for your phone, they do not work that well, poor quality over 3G and patchy at times with Wifi, then get Fring, the undisputed world leader in Voip apps for mobile. Abou 300 mobile phones are supported, gives you Skype, MSN, ICQ, Twitter, Yahoo, etc as well as VOIP/SIP, Download Fring
Fring costs nothing, it is great to have Skype & MSN Messenger talk & chat (FREE) even over 3G. If you want you can easily add an MNF, FRE or ENG or whoever VOIP account to Fring as well.
This is my point with this FRE app. It is nothing new and is not even "best in class" as it does not allow access to Skype, MSN, etc as FRE want you to route all messages & calls thru FRE. This might be good for FRE but consumers will soon find the free and better alternatives such as Fring.
Again, as repeated earlier, MNF was one of the first to put out a mobile VOIP package for Nokia phones called MNF On The Go over 1 year ago. If you search this on the MNF website you will now find that whilst they recommend it that they refer you off to Fring See Here if you want an alternative product that offers more features.
I think if a company like MNF who are performing much better financially than FRE refer people to a freeware app like Fring rather than their own mobile VOIP offering that this speaks volumes as to what FRE can expect to make from attcking the mobile VOIP market...........
There is still a massive job ahead of companies like MNF, FRE & ENG to get out there and build a VOIP subscriber base on landline delivered VOIP, we can get to mobile VOIP later.
