The last 2 Nokia handsets I have used run with Symbion operating system which you can for free install Fring or Nimbuzz. There are many more apps out there for free, I just use these 2. Also, these 2 apps support a SIP client, I have setup MNF & ENG Voip in both and used very successfully with Wii and to a lesser degree 3G. They can also make and receive Skype, VOIP & Mobile calls. Mssaging options offered are Skype, MSN Messenger, etc.
Have a look at www.fring.com or www.nimbuzz.com to see if it can be installed on your mobile, you will love it! I leave mine configured for 3G so I always get my Skype & MSN messages coming thru live and configure the VOIP client in the Nokia to use Wifi in home or office.
Also, these Nokia phones have a direct SIP client built in with VOIP support using a number of predefined Wifi access points & 3G. I have defined my home and office Wifi AP's and whenever I am in those locations I can use MNF VOIP on my mobile. Pretty much any N or E series has this in it.
Again, I make these points as FRE keep telling us what a wonderful job they have done spending $8M + FY07 Loss (can't recall how much, probably another $8M) on developing this amazing technology which you can get for free anyway? Geez, they must not get out much, how could they have missed that?
MNF VOIP settings are on the MNF support page, just type Nokia in Search then put those settings in your Nokia SIP client and define the Wifi access point and it just works, pretty simple. You do need a separate VOIP number though as you can not have multiple ATA/SIP using the same UN/PW/Voip number.
Just in case people are not aware, MNF PBX is an alternative to a traditional office based phone system. You still need the handsets of course but they then plug into your office network LAN switch and the box that is normally screwed to your wall in the office is simulated on the MNF VOIp server. You save by not having to but the main box, just the handsets and of course benefit from low call costs.
The MNF virtual PBX is quite amazing from the perspective that generally, people who buy a traditional PBX usually have no idea how to propoerly use or configure it. They are beholdent to the phone installer to come out each time to change the setup, this involves cost and wasted time.
Using the MNF PBX solution give people a simple web based tools to configure their PBX and change it as required, or they can talk to an MNF tech and get help on configuring, for free! No brainer folks.
