A North Burnett mine that is expected to inject tens of millions of dollars into the local economy has been officially opened.

The Goondicum Mine, 30 kilometres east of Monto in Queensland, yields four different industrial minerals used to make a range of goods including fertiliser, glass and a white pigment common in hundreds of everyday products.
As production is ramped up to maximum capacity over the next month, Monto Shire Mayor Warren McLachlan says it will also yield jobs and money for the local economy.
"All the local businesses tell me that they really notice the turnover," he said.
Monto Minerals managing director Geoff Moore says the mine is expected to make about $70 million profit after a few years.
Mr Moore says over 40 people from Monto have permanent employment at the mine and local contractors are also used.
