A field report written by a Boulder investor was published in Germany at the weekend. The investor visited the building site in Sharjah and was able to speak to the site manager, Mr K.K. Kahale, there. I am glad to forward his report including photos. The visitor is a civil engineer.
"I am a businessman in the building industry and I know what I am talking about. Projects of this kind are not new to me. I have often had to re-set the clock at 5 to 12. Quite a few things have gone wrong or been neglected in the 8 years since I’ve been involved. That’s true, but lessons have been learnt from this and skilled employees have been specifically selected and the new tasks transferred to them. GHD or McLellan, just to name two, who have performed the most important services. New brooms sweep clean, as the saying goes. I believe our new chairman has proved this. The findings have been compiled and judged. The result is excellent! APST has started its project on new ground and has completed the planning. I think that the building work will start very quickly according to the construction timetable. All the things connected with this are in the best hands. As a result of the changed basic conditions already mentioned (pig iron plant and the seamless tube equipment project) the project will be bigger, more flexible and of importance, the project will have a significantly faster cash flow. This means that the building ground had to be adapted to the requirements. This has happened and we will be positively surprised by the new project concept. Time delays which we have experienced often enough will be redressed by full production ahead of schedule. The subject financing should also be clarified one time here. FC says that the financing is safe and will be made available in several stages to prevent the interest burden from becoming too high until a backflow is possible. This is a normal and common method in the case of large projects. These financing promises are normally made with obligations and conditions which concern the explicit project. So not a lump sum promise of money, that is a fine but important aspect!
HAMRIYAH FREE ZONE – SHARJAH The clocks tick in a different way in Dubai. Here money rules the world. Applications and plans are discussed and approved by a council. Then everything starts. Regulations are observed but they may not block things. What we have got here is a special coming together of facts, personalities and money. The new head of our company Mr Abdulrahman Ahmad Falaknaz has not only got all the strings in his hands but has pulled them in such a way that we “the company Boulder Steel” stand there where we as a company of “Mr 1000%” also belong. All around us well-known companies have pricked up their ears and pointed their fingers at us. Partner contracts, shareholdings and memorandums of understanding are the aim and are being strived for. Last but not least the naming of the expert Mr KK Kahale as project manager for both regions has given the whole thing a new and, above all, serious face. Mr Kahale is an internationally very experienced and competent professional who has already set up steel plants for many big concerns. He is equipped with know how like no other and has revived the project. Thanks to the whole board On-site observations inspired me and eclipsed my images. What’s going on there is crazy. A landscape of cranes, a scurry of caterpillars and lorries. The whole site is hermetically sealed off. With the active support of Mr KK Kahale we were able to make the visit and take a few photos. We will soon be very happy with what is going on there. I am very sure that Mr Falaknaz, as a building tycoon and banker, has precise ideas of how to lead the project to his aims. I was able to capture a few impressions photographically and to find out a few technical details. Thanks once again to Mr KK Kahale!
