    Sadly I agree with you. I suspect that we have already gone well past some key tipping points. The rate at which the oceans act as huge heat sink is now the determining factor.

    The recent acceleration in global warming is caused one way or another by human consumption. Maybe 80% of it is due to humans and 20% due to various natural causes.

    Within recorded human history the Middle East has gradually become hotter and much drier. Over the past 200 years this trend has accelerated and so our ultranationalist friends on these forums may live to see vast numbers of equatorial peoples moving both north and south.

    Meanwhile, any change in the direction of the Gulf Stream, caused by ocean warming, may paradoxically cause parts of Northern Europe to freeze.
