like you said your analysis is crude and I think pretty flawed at best. I bought a cheap bottom of the range giant mountain bike for $1395 people buying these bikes would be paying in the upper boundary of the market. Carbon fiber frames are so labour intensive and manufacturing cost are expensive and they still cant make enough of them. If trek didn't think it was a viable system there wouldn't be 150 bikes sent to them for crash testing.
Trek would have had many bean counter already crunching the figures and their process engineers handing them those numbers
However it is agreed then the system works its only a question on how much money we all make
