I am confused with the "signals" / messages that Toyota is sending out. What I have been reading in the past months is that Toyota believes more in a hydrogen fuel celled ( HFC ) cars than pure EVs.
Just take a look at their website:

Or that they believe pure BEVs are still far away, so they will only sell plug-in hybrids:
