Agree with the others that they are (not implying they are) developing two versions.

You stated "...this may be worth developing in parallel to the full structures..." - they are developing it parallel.

Of course something that was initially never intended to be a finished speaker would need further refinement to attain the correct response to sound input and the desired output quality and across the entire frequency spectrum (including the low frequencies), so it appears you've misunderstood what was written. The reason for them highlighting the low frequency performance (i.e. volume) was in the context of and comparison to the performance of the other version.

You also haven't explained what it is about the design of the simplified structure that makes you think it is for "for lower-cost, less quality-demanding applications"? I'm trying to understand why you think this in the context of how the speaker works, not simply restating what has already been announced. Are you confused by the term "simplified structure" and somehow associated it with lower grade sound reproduction?
