I think your between-the-lines reading sounds similar to mine. My reading on what was said about the "simplified structures" was that they performed exceptionally well within a particular frequency range, and that this may be worth developing in parallel to the full structures for lower-cost, less quality-demanding applications. In the meantime, for the applications most people are interested in, the full structure is the core focus.
