I see now, they’ve already formed a launch pad into the eSIM market. So the threat then turns to compressed margins and loss of market share as eSIMs become ubiquitous and competition from larger network carriers moves in. The large telcos have been dragging their feet to protect revenues in the current SIM market, but once one enters, you can be sure a tsunami of competition will follow.
The counter-argument being Flexiroam’s relatively early-mover status and established niche markets. The eSIM market in general appears to embody the antithesis of customer stickiness. Great for us end-users, but small players like Flexiroam will need to be creative in their marketing and rolling out of new initiatives. From what I can gather, data sharing through Flexiroam appears to be one such cost-effective strategy to multiply customer numbers.
At the moment, I’m content with viewing from the sidelines. Although the more I read, the more interesting FRX’s proposition becomes.
