The reluctant British govt has conceded that, if Britain leaves and trades with Europe under WTO trade agreements, there will be £14billion of tariffs coming into the country against £6 billion going out === an 8 billion profit.
A clause in article 50 allows a country to withdraw from the European union if it is in accordance with it's constitutional will. Constitutionally, Britain has had a referendum, a vote in both houses and an election which all determined and reinforced the desire to leave. Britain could have negotiated to leave and then trade with Europe under WTO free trade governed without WTO tariffs, or, if the EU plays hard, Britain can just leave without a deal using the clause mentioned above and be 8 billion better off on the tariff balance sheet .
Furthermore, with no deal, Britain would drop the bs 39 billion they have offered in negotiations. With that the European Union would be on its knees and other countries in Europe would follow suit and leave.
So why doesn't Britain take advantage of this quite obviously superior position in the negotiations?
Namely, because what's good for the country is not good for (most of) the power hungry politicians. What's happening in Britain is not incompetence in negotiations, it is greedy selfish politicians who have (and wish to continue to have) their pockets lined by Europe's unelected beaurecrats.
