As you have an interest in music, you might be interested in these thoughts - just a collection of bum bubbles -
I have known for a long time that many great mathematicians work (think) lying down.
Many of them rise late in the day. They wake early, but, lie in bed thinking through concepts and theorems or similar.
From what I can see, music is different – I might be corrected, but, I have never seen much about numbers of great composers and songwriters who work lying down.
Most as far as I can gather work either standing up or sitting.
There might be a practical reason for that – perhaps most of them write the lyrics then even if it’s one line – run over to the piano or instrument of choice to hear how the line goes – I don’t know, because I am about as far from expert as one can get in the area.
What I do notice is that research which measures brain activity during composition is one when they are lying down (MRI) – which is not their normal working position.
Perhaps if they had MRI’s in a standing or sitting position – we might get vastly different data.
The existing data are very clear on which areas light up and which areas slow down as far as I can see so far.
As far as thinking, creation and enlightenment goes – there’s also what happens in the shower cubicle – which, there appears to be quite a bit of work on.
Most of the research and ideas one sees on the power of thought in a shower – suggests it’s relaxation that does the work and allows the subconscious space to create and problem solve.
The secret appears to be dopamine.
I don’t believe it at all ---------- I can accept the dopamine part of the equation – that’s easy to accept – but, I do not accept that it’s the relaxation in the shower that is the driving force –
Why do I not accept this? –
Because you never hear of people having their best ideas in the bath
Yet, a bath is supposedly very relaxing – indeed, many people get so relaxed – they fall asleep in the bath.
But – no creation. Why?
I personally believe the removal of positive ions from the skin is a big deal BY water droplets or moving water – and, maybe it’s that that causes a dopamine release – don’t know – there’s probably a PhD in it somewhere. (any study of horses, dogs or kids in dry windy weather with the buildup of huge amounts of positive ions on the skin, to me – tells the story) – watch what dogs do as soon as they get wet – their whole demeanour changes – ditto kids, ditto horses – but, dogs really are the greatest example – want a happy dog – wet it on a dry, warm windy day. (and, for those who think - arrh - the dog isn't always in the shower - it jumps in a dam or creek etc. - well, that's true - but, the water is flowing, the dog is moving (swimming or running) - unlike a human in a bath)
- “Cold Showers C) increases dopamine by a whopping 250%!°– A cold shower (below 14”

Note – it doesn’t say ‘bath’ – no one has a cold bath and a revelation – Wil Hof would be a wonderful person to ask some questions about in this area
Back to lying down – combined with showering -
I would like to see someone who has a shower horizontally – one would probably have to design a special shower – but, it would possibly be worth the effort.
