KUALA LUMPUR - Lynas Corporation Ltd should accept the fact that the Malaysian government has changed and notworks the same way as the old kingdom.Kuantan Member of Parliament, Fuziah Salleh said Lynas had to comply with the decision made by the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government, especially the way they should handle their radioactive waste."They have to accept that our government has changed and they can not even do as they please as they did with the previous government."They need to obey the Malaysian government's instructions on managing the radioactive waste," he said.He was speaking to reporters after launching the Bank's Food Program organized by the Federal Territory Islamic Religious Department at Masjid Jamek here today. He was asked to comment on the statement by Deputy Minister of Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change, Isnaraissah Munirah in Parliament yesterday that his ministry has set up a special task force to assist Lynas in releasing Leach Water Waste (WLP) from Malaysia. He said the ministry also informed Australian authorities via official letter dated 26 February. The move, he explained, was a news to Canberra that the corporation had to resend the WLP to Australia and also hasten the Lynas process to get approval from the Australian government for that purpose. In the meantime, when asked to elaborate on Lynas's deadline to export residual stocks from its processing plant by 2 September to the country of origin when the license needs renewal Fuziah said that if there is a connection to the deadline, it depends on the Ministry of Energy, Science, and Technology , Environment and Climate Change."However, as Kuantan Member of Parliament, I recommend that Lynas does not increase the radioactive waste from the existing amount."They should not be allowed to produce more waste until existing materials are sent back to their home country," he said. - MalaysiaGazette.
