For those of you with memberships to InvestSmart/Intelligent Investor I highly encourage you to read/listen to the interview between Alan Kohler and the CEO of VoltBank. Basically, the amount of work that has been done by Volt to get a banking license is astronomical and they have done this all without having a single customer. 

Key points: The UK has started with these digital banks around 2015 and they have been a huge success, Volt are so far the only digital bank with a banking license and so have the first-mover advantage on all the other that will likely follow. Who knows how far away the other 3 or 4 digital banks are from a license - who are currently in the process. 

They have potential for a loan book around 1 billion dollars and they should start acquiring customers pretty quickly given the research that has been done and the interest from the general public.
