Met coal is essential for steel making and it has had bad press recently because the "coal detractors" have tarred it with the same brush as thermal coal. We are a major supplier of seaborne met coal (hard, semi-hard & semi-soft) and without it there is no economic means of making steel which is elementary for emerging economies (please note India's growing need for met coal below):

At spot prices of $180 USD/ton FOB ( $250AUD) it is over 3 times the price of iron ore, its companion in steel making.
