Its the silicomanganese and ferrosilicon that OMH produces that China cannot compete with. The main competitors to OMHs ferro alloys are the indian and chinese ferro alloys.
india has double the electricity cost and logistical distance and china has a 20% export tax on ferrosilicon, not to mention a big portion is located inland, far from any ports, with double the electricity cost of om holdings.
om holdings only needs to export to japan, south korea an of electricity d taiwan, which primarily get their product from china and india, neither of which are low cost.
at 4500 kwh per tonne for silicomanganese and 9000kwh per tonne for ferrosilicon. A 7 cent per kwh electricity cost, which is about the regional average, would give omh a usd180 and 360 profit margin over the average ferroalloy producer.
china has to contend with a 20% export tax as well as inland logistical costs as well.
