As it stands, Americans can legally buy a semi-automatic rifle and high capacity magazine from a retail outlet, but they have to wait for background check clearance.
If they go to a gun show or shop online, no background check is required. They can take possession of these efficient people-killing machines immediately.
* Does it make any sense to leave a gaping loophole like that open? * Why would "law abiding citizens" be in such haste and wish to avoid the check process?
