"It is hard to believe it was less than 10 years ago that James Packer and the One.Tel founder Jodee Rich were mock-fighting like brothers at the Packer family's polo property Ellerston, and spent their holidays cruising the Greek islands and skiing together.

From speaking to each other almost every day, their friendship has now unravelled to the point where Rich's lawyers were in court yesterday.

They were getting an extension of time in which to serve Packer with legal documents as part of a lawsuit arising out of the One.Tel collapse.

Rich's lawyers now have until the end of November to outline their case against Packer, as well as Lachlan Murdoch and a slew of others including Ernst and Young.

The delay is mostly due to the fact that Rich doesn't want to make any legal moves against Packer and Murdoch until he knows the outcome of an ASIC lawsuit - a case that kept him in a courtroom for a couple of years and which could force him to hand over $92 million to the corporate watch-puppy.

Justice Robert Austin, the judge who heard the long-running ASIC case against Rich, is still beavering away at his decision, which had been expected by now.

But the court heard yesterday that it won't be delivered until "well after" May 28.""
