The big funds and brokers are the market makers, the algorithms they use is a tool to coax the sp in their chosen direction. Bulking is a very lucrative method of revenue for the ASX which allows the brokers to run algos.
Whilst bulking isn't the most important concept to understand (for a trader), it does allow one to grasp the bigger picture. Most retail get by with simple TA but to understand algorithms ie what they are trying to achieve is a very valuable tool to have.
