EIS for the Darwin Tivan Plant // We are already a month and a half into 2019 and no submission has been made. I suspect this is due to Jan and Feb being the wettest months, so likely a submission made in March sometime. Everything seems to take forever, but I do understand why. I suspect management put the possibility of the plant being in Malaysia to put a little pressure on the NT government etc... but geez we've a lot of time to get this EIS completed. Also how is the water management plan going for Mt.Peake? I suspect nothing going ahead till this is complete, likely end of March. Anyhow, I hold with baited breathe because the everything to date says we will go into production and be an absolute monster.

    Darwin Environmental Impact Study
The Environmental Impact Study(EIS) for the proposed TIVAN® downstream processing plant facility in Darwin is nearing completion with TNG’s appointed consultant, Animal Plant Mineral (APM) performing seasonal biological surveys.
APM is continuing to assess the environmental factors specific to the proposed processing plant location and engaging with the Northern Territory Environment Protection Agency (NTEPA).

    Darwin Refinery
    TNG Limited On
    27 October 2015,

TNG Limited (TNG) submitted a Notice of Intent to the Northern Territory Environment Protection Authority (NT EPA) outlining a proposal for Darwin Refinery. TNG proposes to construct and operate the Darwin Refinery on Middle Arm, Darwin Harbour, adjacent to the Elizabeth River (within Lot 1817, Hundred of Ayers).  The refinery would process magnetite concentrate railed from TNG’s (separately proposed) Mt Peake Project, 1,400 km south of Darwin, to produce:vanadium pentoxide - for use in steel, non-ferrous alloys, chemicals, catalysts and energy storage (vanadium redox batteries) titanium dioxide pigment - for use in paint, plastics, paper and inkspig iron - for use in steel making. The three products would be exported through the East Arm Wharf to international customers. The project requires assessment under the NT Environmental Assessment Act and is a ‘controlled action’ under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999. The project is being assessed at the level of an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) under the bilateral agreement between the NT and Australian Governments. The relevant controlling provisions are: Listed threatened species and communities (sections 18 and 18A); and Listed migratory species (sections 20 and 20A).Terms of Reference to assist the proponent in preparing the draft EIS for Darwin Refinery were issued on the 20 May 2016.
