Vonex closes in on commercialising conference app

Matt Birney SPONSORED Thursday, 14 February 2019 8:59AM Matt Birney Telco upstart Vonex is making solid progress towards commercialisation of its ground-breaking “Oper8tor” communications App with the ASX-listed company poised to make a “white label” version available to businesses in next month. This white labelling will allow business customers to brand Oper8tor Conference with their organisational branding, including logos, branded colours and additional text. Oper8tor was designed to enable users of multiple voice communication platforms such as Skype or Whatsapp and others to communicate with each other in real time regardless of which platform each user subscribes to.The company has recently upgraded the user interface and improved the user experience when scheduling conferences based on feedback from the public testing stage.Notably, users have given an average score of 4.6 out of a possible score of 5 for the quality of voice calls made using the Oper8tor Conference in-browser audio. This result exceeds the average mobile call quality of 4.3 and is also well above the scores of between 3.6 and 3.9 that are recognised as being of good quality on a traditional communications network. Vonex is also planning to make the iOS and Android app versions of Oper8tor Conference available for download in Australia during March, ahead of a commercial launch in Europe by July. The European launch will target the large addressable market that consists of 465 million mobile devices, of which 70% are smartphones, according to global mobile network operators trade body the GSM Association. At launch, the Oper8tor app will have the same voice functionality as Oper8tor Conference, allowing users to call blast and conferencing their contacts. The company is also progressing development of Oper8tor Messaging, its solution for unified social media messaging. Vonex plans to bring together the Conference, Voice, Message and Video platforms on the Oper8tor app to facilitate user communications across a broad range of channels.Managing Director Matt Fahey said: “Our latest feedback and testing indicates the features that Vonex provides in Oper8tor Conference is resolving pain points that platforms currently in the market have not addressed.”“In a survey sent to one quarter of our current users, the feedback on audio quality and simplicity of use of Oper8tor Conference has shown positive results.”“We see great scope for these innovations to bring smooth and seamless communications to a broad range of business and consumer users.”Vonex continues to benefit from the continued roll-out of the NBN in Australian metropolitan areas, the start of its online marketing campaign in all States and Territories, and improved engagement with new and existing channel partners. The company achieved revenues of $2.16 million for the second quarter of the 2019 financial year, a rise of 7.5% year-on-year. Vonex has also added 38 new re-seller channel partners in the 2019 financial year to date and is on track to add 100 new partners by 30 June 2019.Last month, the company said its cloud-based PBAX telephony business reached a record of 26,000 registered users. With new products poised to hit the market soon and its penetration of the Australian telecommunications market rising, 2019 is looking increasingly like a watershed year for Vonex.
