The main problem is the value of the network is very low because they kept the copper. FTTN is already obsolete. Many people who have it are on ADSL2-like speeds. If they have kept FTTP it would be a valuable asset for decades into the future, infrastructure that could be continually upgraded to reach very fast speeds (Tbps).
As a result of Turnbull/Abbott, the NBN is worth half of what it should be. Whoever buys it will be looking at a cost of billions to rip the copper out within the next decade. Copper should never have been retained, it was sheer idiocy from the Coalition.
The worst part -- the experts all told them so. They didn't listen because they wanted political product differentiation and they wanted to pain the other side as big spenders. As a result, we have wasted billions.
