I was talking to my father-in-law the other day and the topic came up in relation to his work and his company. He is the managing director of an aftermarket car sales company. The company has a turnover between 13 and 14 million a year with profits between 3 million and 4 million a year. He’s on about 200K a year base and about 7k in bonuses a month which are performance based and in his contract. He has access to a company credit card and has a car purchase allowance of 120K . I asked him why he does not take advantage of this and buy himself a nice car. He currently drives a secondhand Toyota Camry which he chose and company purchased for about 20K some time ago. I have never seen him use the company credit card and he’s told me that he never requires it as he has plenty of income to cover his own needs. He has taken me to work functions with clients and other employees and still has paid out of his own pocket. When we spoke he said “I don’t use the company credit card or buy myself a flashy car as firstly it will look bad and secondly I don’t want to waste money on unnecessary things”. Then it hit me just how much he values the company and knows how important the company is to him. Looking into APG and how we got here and what happened along the way, I think it maybe time to gut the entire thing and start fresh with a completely new team. We need people that have the same mentality as my father-in-law does for his company. People who won’t spend funds and look after their own pockets but rather look after the company and will know that in return the company thriving will benefit them and their positions. It makes me sick to think how APG funds have been used and are probably being used in a way that has destroyed the company And its reputation to the point that no one will give us money any more as any smart institution has worked out how our management team manages the funds. It makes me sick to know that a company producing no income was paying board members and the managing director the salaries and benefits that they received for years on end with no progress and no production to generate self sufficient income. I am of the strong belief that until the entire team is replaced with people that actually care about the company and have integrity to do the right thing when others aren’t looking, without the need to be monitored or questioned, is when we can begin to repair the reputation of APG and possibly start attracting institutional funds instead of issuing shares at rock bottom prices that ridiculously increase the shares on issue on market to the point that the share price rising becomes a difficult task.

Hi TJ, I think your father-in-law is more an exception than the norm. If we can find an MD who really cares about the company, we will be rich. It is old news but it is on news.com.au today about the extravagant life style of NAB boss's assistant. As they say in corporate, business may be tough but lifestyle must be maintained. Let's hope we can find a good MD soon.
