Thanks for the 2 great articles @ Salami !
For a quick explanation of the numbers in The Hindu article , when it states a value of LAKH. It is basically a measure of 100,000 . So their numbers of people who have TB are 27 Lakh, or 27 x 100,000 = 2.7 million people in India have TB.
About 10% of latent infections progress to active disease which, if left untreated, kills about half of those infected. ... Infection of other organs can cause a wide range of symptoms. Tuberculosis is spread through the air when people who have active TB in their lungs cough, spit, speak, or sneeze.
Signs and symptoms of active TB include:
- Coughing that lasts three or more weeks.
- Coughing up blood.
- Chest pain, or pain with breathing or coughing.
- Unintentional weight loss.
- Fatigue.
- Fever.
- Night sweats.
- Chills.
