We invested in the battery revolution hear of the exponential demand growth and buy into that theme. For many (like I) that thought it was a clever idea to jump in and benefit from the large numbers forecast have been disappointed. The transistion to EV and storage in Western countries is happening slowly. There isn't the urgency that is seen in China. Western countries are taking a slow measured approach and obviously government policy announcements and timelines will need to be watched for any meaningful decrees.
Recent government announcements regarding Lithium in W.A. rekindles interest in the battery revolution. We are betting on Graphite, a larger percentage of Li Ion batteries, to be also in high demand. We are also betting the high grade, largest commercial Graphite producer Syrah can make great gains from graphite demand. Commercial production was declared about three weeks ago while the spherical graphite plant in USA has yet to reveal its role in Syrah's future success or mediocrity. And there is V. The reality is still dancing up the road ahead.
Articles like this from AFR in 2014 suggested "Syrah strikes gold with world’s largest graphite deposit". Surely, things can only get better from here. https://www.copyright link/markets/commodities/syrah-strikes-gold-with-world-s-largest-graphite-deposit-20140712-j0eyv
Years ahead of competitors
High-quality graphite, an excellent conductor of electricity, is the fundamental component in the development of lithium-ion storage batteries able to power electric cars. Lithium-ion batteries are also used for smartphones, tablets and laptops.Syrah is the most advanced of a small army of fledgling explorers and would-be miners who are hunting graphite from South Australia to Mozambique. But Credit Suisse analyst Michael Slifirski said Syrah was miles ahead of the pack, and its graphite resource had an “almost endless" mine life, which would see battery producers much more likely to target it for supply deals.“A lot of other wannabe graphite producers mostly don’t have the grade or the purity of graphite so their cost bases would be far too high," he said.
