That tweet seems to just expresss a cynical and cliché political bent. This appointment doesn't look to be a question of choosing talent out of a pool, more to do with political appeasement in the wake of the security troubles in the north.
You are not one to where tin foil hats. I thought you might appreciate the evidence I presented in my post that backs my hypothesis. The ruling MPP party took 49 of the available 111 sets in the national assembly in the 2015 election along with 53.49% of the vote. Surely there would have been other suitable candidates from within their own ranks for the position.
Look at the electoral map and the insurgent attack distribution map side by side and the reason for this appointment becomes crystal clear. You either isolate the supporters of the old guard to the misery of their areas in the north and hope that their support base doesn't spread under the banner of fighting insurgents or you bring them into the fold. Wise move in my opinion if I read the situation correctly. Esh
