Since the buyback has been announced and the company is fully committed to this action, the buyback decision is read by investors as a signal on the board's confidence in the future prospects of the company.
If the board does cancel or stop the buyback, it is more likely to send a wrong signal to the market.
If the board has no confidence in the future prospects of the company by cancelling the buyback, why should investors as outsiders buy the shares of the company?
