Hi @radx, I would have to look up the long term stats on that but from memory and experience alone, it's less a direction thing and more an up and down thing. That being said, sometimes direction on the day represents how people feel about the coming quarter. This is could be due to extreme tilts toward bearish or bullish positions. Many futures contracts will be turning over to the new front month contracts. Index options and futures and stock options and futures will be expiring. There is often much higher volume, which you will see that intraday and particularly at the close. I will be watching NYSE total and composite volume and will let post a chart of it so you can see the relatively large jump if there is one.
