The EU is an entirely capitalist construction, created originally by "the European Coal and Steel Community, which was founded in 1950 and had just six members: Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg and the Netherlands."
It was an attempt to unite Europe peacefully, instead of thru war, to form a trading block to compete on the world economy.
And Russia is now a completely capitalist country.
If you now see "totalitarian slavery", "censorship and big government, and act like moral Puritans", (which I agree, we are seeing) then you are describing capitalism, as capitalism imposes austerity, inequality and prepares for new wars.
And yes I agree, history is repeating in a rhyming way.
But in the yellow vest movement, we are beginning to see (embryonic atm) the way to unify europe.
