Best to just hold onto shares and benefit from accretive added value in there being less shares on market
That the theoretical side of the story!
Since, less shares exist, dividends should also increase besides the share price.
Ask the APPLE shareholders about their BB?
Supporters of BB on HC have used APPLE as an example on how BB had increased its share price.
Unfortunately all that money spent on BBing of Apple's shares had backfired as it share price has fallen to the being of this year level.
W Buffet might see value in Apple's shares now. I believe he finds BB a bit shady, and on occasion opens up opportunities for him to buy, when the BB backfires.
I’m pleased that BHP had opted for a BB or for a special dividend.
As a small holder who wishes to retain my small holdings, I still will be gaining something from BHP decision to give the Special dividend and not relying on a theoretical outcome.
My comments are general in nature about the theory of BB's.
