Two bits of news:

1. Law firms compete in beauty parade to get AMP class action

Further squabbling for the AMP class action is ongoing among five different firms (including Shine). Looks like Maurice Blackburn and Slaters have teamed up so technically its a 4 way contest?

The above article covers why different firms think it should be them. Though Shine does not appear to have any special claim to this CA unlike the other firms - at least none mentioned in the article. Personally I'd think the most compelling case would be that made by IMF Bentham who have 4600 investors signed i.e. that the court shouldn't interfere with contractual relationships and force those investors to sign with a different firm.Then again who knows if those same investors are not also signed with more than one firm at the same time.

Regardless its probably unlikely that Shine will win this based on information in the article - however i haven't been following closely.

2. Update on QuinEmanuelClass Action against Shine

Yes this is still alive. Those who previously signed up to the CA against Shine (Dodd v Shine Corporate Ltd) may either register their interest by 29 Jan or opt out by this date.

What happens if someone who had previously registered neither opted out nor re-registered? Who knows?
