Putting aside the environmental impacts of Australia being almost totally reliant on imported fossil fuels, there is another reason why Australia should be doing everything it can to become energy self sufficient:
"The MUA report highlights that Australia is the only IEA member country that fails to meet its obligation to hold 90 days of fuels, and has done so since early 2012. It said government statistics shows fuel reserves are generally less than three weeks."
