While speed may be less important for storage, it is still important. Today, swapping a traditional magnetic storage hard drive for a flash-based SSD can dramatically improve the performance of a PC, especially for read- or write-intensive tasks. 100x the speed of flash, which Prof Tour mentions in the above video, puts WBT in the realms of DRAM, while having the data retention properties of hard drives. While I don't think this could yet mean RAM could become unnecessary (if I recall, WBT can't match speed of RAM for both read and write, just read, I think), imagine the performance improvement of having your swap file (basically an "extension" of RAM placed on your hard disk) read at similar speeds to native RAM.
On top of that, WBT offers improved density (more data stored in a smaller physical area) and reduced power consumption.
On top of that, WBT functions in a way that has similarities to human neurons, and therefore has potential application in AI to achieve things that would otherwise have to be simulated in software.
