I don't think you guys are factoring in two things.
1) A director probably isn't too concerned with ST losses or gains - they are usually LT holders.
2) A director can only buy when they are not privy to inside information which might be due for imminent release - so duh in a news vacuum the SP might drift down a bit.
Of course on the macro side we're likely to see some spot action over the coming weeks... time will tell
