99.5% ultra high purity flake had been receiving a 10 - 20% premium to 98%. It's lucrative, but not enough to fund a separate facility. There's no mention of it in the base case PFS (given it hasn't been produced) only meaningless speculation on here.

Ultra high purity is used in aerospace and other applications beyond simply batteries. Anyone can make it but estimates are $2.5 / Lb processing for each 1% additional grade added after initial pass through, i.e. you have to get it on the first go to make it economically.

Separate and quite unrelated to this I suggested a possible offsite electrolyte plant since this is Vince's baby and currently AVL's third strategic focus. I have no information on the value add of electrolyte but it's going to be constrained. Battery manufacturers already have existing capacity to make their own from high purity flake. I don't believe it to be marketable at all from today's V2O5 price and expect this plan to be shelved for a year or two.

I see it and VSun as a marketing play more than anything but I do applaud the guys long term ambitions to manufacture batteries in Australia. We need more ambition here.
