    "Standard AM FM won’t reach to New Zealand."

    In theory it wont , however I use to listen to AM American radio stations ie cassey Cassins top hits back in the early 70s from Cincinattee Ohio (from memory ) on a Sunday on a small valve radio . I would contact your local Amateur radio club who should put you right ie :
