PSC scientists  [Prof Grätzel, Dr. Michael Saliba (AMI), Dr. Yulia Galagan (Solliance), Dr. Tystan Watson (SPECIFIC), Dr. Kymakis (TEI Of Crete), Prof Di Carlo (Tor Vergata) etc.]  met each other by chance at the NanoBio conference in Heraklion on Crete, Greece. The place for the establishment of a pilot production line and a 10m² PSC solar array. Greatcell is by chance main sponsor and Prof Grätzel is the first plenary speaker!

"The H2020-GRAPHENE project will investigate advanced technology for higher efficiencies, longer life and improved encapsulation of perovskite solar cells (PSC) using glass substrates and graphene electrodes as part of the European Union Horizon 2020 programme. The E500,000 grant was awarded to subsidiary Greatcell Solar Italy based in Rome for a 10m² panel on Crete."

"Materials cost of solar cells is a significant issue, and standard hole-transport materialssignificantly increase the device cost. In a landmark result, researchers fromEPFL demonstrated PSCs with efficiency over 20% using a low-cost hole-transportmaterial , by adding a reduced graphene oxide spacer layer between the hole transportmaterial and the gold electrode, to stabilise the interface. Emmanuel Kymakis (TEI Crete), deputy leader of the Energy Generation WorkPackage, said: “These results reveal the beneficial role of GRMs as a fascinatingtoolbox for mastering the interface properties of the devices, paving the way forthe large-scale commercial deployment of graphene-PSCs. In this context, effortswill be focused on the future industrialization of this emerging technologythrough the establishment of a pilot production line and a 1 kWp GRM-perovskitesolar farm in Crete.”
