There has been filed charges in Pirkanmaa local court about unauthorized forest cutting in the planned
Kaapelinkulma gold mine in Valkeakoski.
At least one employee of the mining compny Dragon Mining (oy) will in the court because of a nature conservation crime.
About two years ago, about five hectars of forest was cut, this forest should have been conserved because of endangered
butterfly Woodland brown (Lopinga achine).
Police did interview three persons as suspects of the crime. They denied the crime.
The suspects worked for the mining company at the time of the incidence. The Kaapelinkulma gold mine is planned to start
at the end of the year independently of this court case.
The penalties for nature conservation crimes are from fines to 2 years prison.
For a severe/gross case penalties are 4 months to 4 years.

with charges being from 4 months to 6 years in prison.
