Very good point to also keep a focus on GP not just ARPU and Revenue - since we don't have visibility over how each deal is structured!

I think the ARR focus is also because SaaS companies use it as a baseline for comparison sack. But as you mention it also gives them a metric to 'grow' that incorporates the others. Although it has its limitations because it ignores GP, ARPU, R&D investment, costs etc!

As long as ARPU, GP and costs don't shift around too dramatically, keeping a focus on ARR makes sense.
