I have been holding for some time now even before the roll-out of these 3D applications and I must say as a Quantity Surveyor, this technology will re-shape the Built Environment Industry. The industry itself is stuck in the mud and takes time to catch on.
I was working on a project very recently for a Government facility near Canberra. I work in Sydney. Using Google Maps' 3D technology I was able to get a way more in-depth analysis of the existing facility, as well as the surround landscape. I picked up things that were unknown and not considered that could have possibly been a disaster with the site proposed on-top of an existing swale. An inspection of the landscape from the comfort of my office chair. Even my older colleagues marveled at the 3D technology.
Without a doubt though Nearmap's image quality is superior to Google's. If they can pull off their 3D technology it will be hot property once the industry eventually catches on. Possibly even a buy-out from the global behemoth.
I will be recommending a subscription to my Directors. And I will be holding my shares tightly.
Good luck to all.
