Mick, it is only a lower house proposal put together by a number of smaller parties without the backing of the Government or larger opposition parties. However, I am not against royalties as long as they are fair and reasonable. Without seeing the paper and only going by what the published article states, I dont think it is an unreasonable proposal. They jacked up iron ore royalties in WA not so long ago and Qld has a 10% royalty on its met and thermal coal exports, which I might add Qld Treasury imposed WITHOUT ANY consultation with the coal industry (happened back in the 2000s).
