The cost of power is of utmost importance for a smelter complex. The cost of power for the GMC smelter furnaces in Indonesia is more than 3 x the cost of OM Sarawak power.
If it costs OM Sarawak US$150/tonne for power to make 1 tonne of FeMn it will cost GMC US$450/tonne.
I'm not just making an idle statement, I know as a fact that the Indonesian power/electricity costs are such that its impossible for GMC to compete in the alloy smelting business, unless all inputs are free. The method that GMC will use for smelting requires the use of 0.43 tonnes of Fesi to make one tonne of LC FeMn. The cost of FeSi from the OMH report is over $2000/tonne.
Many smelters in Japan and India have closed due to high power prices and their power costs are less than Indonesia. The current Indonesian Gov't have deliberately held down prices & will continue to subsidize the power until the next election in 2019. This is causing huge loses for the power company PLN. The only power generation systems that are competitive for alloy smelters is hydro or nuclear, coal fired is marginal. This is the reason why smelters are set up in Norway, Iceland and Sarawak.

spot on Rocket, and then there's the ore supply risk. Understood GMC requires high grade mn ore which is not abundant. Indo ore sources seem unreliable both in quality and quantity. Giusseppe mate you're so ultra pro GMC, please correct us where necessary....
