In theory: post dividend the stock prices are supposed to drop by the amount of the dividend. So it should make no financial difference if you wait for the dividend or not... i think this is called "Dividend irrelevance theory."
It's used to describe the inherent irrationality of "dividend capture" strategies. (i.e. timing stock purchased around dividend dates and then immediately selling, in order to rinse and repeat)
This all assumes a perfectly efficient and rational market (an idea that no one outside of the ivory tower academia would buy into) and nothing else is going on that would affect the SP. That being said for whatever effect the dividend has on the price it *shouldn't* make sense to hold just for a dividend.
@Patong1 if you know nothing about the company the default position should probably be not to buy anything I say that as someone who is long on SHJ.... but it's your money i guess.
