In my opinion, the "West" has been tainted by Greenpeace propaganda against nuclear ever since the Three Mile Island accident in 1979.
I'm personally concerned about climate change and very much into renewable energy (this is my main line of business). With that in mind I see nuclear as an essential technology for the production of clean energy and am annoyed that Greenpeace have let ideology cloud an objective view on this. If anybody should be supporting nuclear energy it should be Greenpeace.
Although this opinion is not shared by many here or in Europe or North America it's clear that China and India and the rest of the world appreciate nuclear for what it can offer. Furthermore, with the cost of labour in those parts of the world being much less than in OECD countries the notorious cost over-runs of new nuclear plants isn't a deal breaking issue.
If modular reactors do become a thing then I belive nuclear will be reintroduced in the West. I also note the recent news of Russia's floating nuclear reactor. Both are interesting developments.
