The mention of Urumqi-Tianshan is interesting as the area has at least four reservoirs looking at Google Maps including the Wulabo Reservoir, Santunbei reservoir, Hongyanchi Reservoir and Shiqihu Reservoir with of course many more across Xinjiang as a whole. The area also has The Heavenly Lake of Tianshan at 4.9 sq km and a similarly sized lake called Karakul at 4.8 sq km in Xinjiang.

However impressive lakes with the sizes of 4.8 and 4.9 sq km respectively might seem , they are totally and utterly dwarfed by the following five lakes also located in the province.

Kanas Lake 45.73 sq km
Sayram Lake 458 sq km
Ebi Lake 500 sq km
Bosten Lake 1000 sq km
Ulungur Lake 1035 sq km

There are many others too, but I couldn't get information about their relative sizes.

The apparent focus on Xinjiang as previously posted would seem to make a lot of sense given the above information and then you have reservoirs and rivers and canals and who knows what else PET can handle and all of this in just a single Chinese province!
