I'm pretty dumb when it comes to chemistry. So perhaps someone can explain this for me. Silicon can hold 10 times the energy of carbon. If silicon makes up 10% of the anode then that 10% can store more than the remaining 90% of the anode. This should equate to nearly double the capacity. (190%)
Silicon can expand in volume by 300%. So if 10% of the volume of the anode is silicon then the total expansion is an additional 30%. Seems a reasonable trade off to get double the energy for a 30% expansion.
Too simple?
