WO2016179659) METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR COMPUTER GRAPHICS RENDERING.
Pointerra's offering is a unique way of selectively retrieving data from a point cloud. They are not offering a web-browser interface for 3D imagery (although they have created this for web-based users and provide an example of this interface on their website). What they have created speeds up access to large (i.e. high-fidelity, or if you like 'original') datasets for any user regardless of whether the user is working with complex 3D modelling software (think Bentley, etc) or a bog standard web interface.
The diagram below, from the patent, is instructive. Data from the point cloud are selectively retrieved in discrete 'packets' (and simplified as necessary) based on what the user sees on their screen. Pointerra's system enables that portion of the total dataset to be accessed and rendered, while removing all other data from processing. (N.B. rendering may require the averaging of datapoints if the user is at zoomed out from the object, or rendering individual datapoints if the user is at full-zoom).

That is the genius of the Pointerra solution. To extract only what is absolutely necessary in response to user requirements and thereby speed up any work involving large 3D datasets.
