I think you missed my point - lets try again ......

If there's a rush on companies using an emerging technology for a competitive advantage (like say - additive manufacture with unprecedented size using technology that replaces what was an un-economically viable (buit useful) material when crafted with a "conventional" subtractive manufacturing process) then don't compete with manufacturers in all sectors making products - sell them the means to use the technology and take a cut across a number of producers in diverse sectors.

See .... clear as mud !!!!

That said - I still would not mind someone dropping off a large chunk of gold on my front doorstep - I probably . would not use it as a doorstop though
