BTW the artificial heating did commence in 2009 at the designated pump areas advised in the web page link. That it is ''friction heating'' does not make it any less an additional form of heat. When all you have is slow moving vegemite that takes over two weeks to get to Valdez, instead of just a few days, then you need to raise viscosity. Anyway Exxon have started to pump 10,000bpd into pump 1 and that over time will help.
There is a plan to remove some of the pumps. I suspect they may have to re think that with so many new finds all needing to be hooked up at pump 1 over the next two years.
I would expect COP costs to be higher at this time, if, for no other reason they have a matured business with higher overheads. Once they start getting more into TAPS I suspect they will get better economy of scale. 40$ pb may well come down.
